Grain Valley North Middle School currently houses 441 students. South Middle School, by comparison, houses 618 students. Continued growth in the northern half of the school district is projected to bring enrollment at North Middle School closer to that of South Middle School within the next 6-10 years.

The School Board has placed a $7.5 Million school bond issue on the ballot for the April 2, 2019 election to allow for an addition of 1½ classroom wings onto North Middle School and for other improvements in the district. Passage of this bond issue would result in a full buildout to North Middle School consistent with the original concept of the school having three full wings of classrooms to accommodate a student capacity similar to that of South Middle School.

Passage of this bond issue does not require raising the district tax levy rate.

North Middle School Addition Details
The addition of 15+ classrooms, plus student restrooms and an open collaboration space, will bring North Middle School to a similar size and layout as South Middle School.Drawing of proposed addition to North Middle School

Some existing parking will be reconfigured to make room for the additional classrooms, plus an additional 52 parking spaces will be added mostly across the back of the school.

The removal of a wall between two existing classrooms will create a larger learning space for drama class.

Relief for District Office Building
Two new classrooms at North Middle School will be configured to house our district’s technology department. This space will be designed with the ability to be converted to two standard classrooms in the future. Moving our technology department to North Middle School will help relieve space at our district office building, which is at capacity.

Possible Alternative Bids

The current turf has exceeded its anticipated life expectancy and is due for replacement. A concept drawing of the new turf is pictured.

Other District projects are being considered as alternative bids with this school bond issue.
